Crucibles to 1,000 kg

Lime stabilised zirconia crucibles to 2,200°C

Trusted with platinum group metals at the highest service temperature in the range. Lime stabilisation prevents volume change, so the body resists spalling and erosion through the severest heating cycles.

Highest service temperature

Rated to 2,200°C, the highest in the Magna range, for platinum group metal melting and refining.

Spalling and erosion resistance

Lime stabilisation prevents volume change, so the body resists spalling through the severest thermal cycles.

Volume stability

A stable crystalline structure holds its form where lesser refractories crack or distort.

Clean precious metal

A dense, non-wetting body keeps platinum group metal melts clean during refining.

Isostatic press forming a crucible

Lime stabilised zirconia

A lime stabilised zirconia body for the most severe service, where lime stabilisation prevents the volume changes that would otherwise crack the refractory, allowing service to 2,200°C.

Zirconia Backing Mix

Zirconia backing mix shares the crucible's coefficient of thermal expansion, so crucible and packing expand and contract together, reducing thermal stress through the severest cycles.

Alumina crucibles

Alumina Crucibles

The workhorse of the range. High purity alumina handles both air and vacuum induction melting, with the thermal shock resistance and smooth, non-wetting surface the investment caster relies on.

Super zirconia crucibles

Super Zirconia Crucibles

Magnesia stabilised for the most demanding vacuum work. Low thermal expansion means one crucible survives pour after pour of superalloy, the reason aerospace casters specify it.

Chrome alumina crucibles

Chrome Alumina Crucibles

A small addition of chrome oxide gives the alumina body its resistance to slag attack, extending crucible life in the air melting commercial foundry.

Magnesia crucibles

Magnesia Crucibles

Lighter than zirconia and preferred by some customers for X-ray analysis. The magnesia body carries lower running costs than stabilised zirconia.

Frequently asked questions

Magna supplies crucibles against drawing numbers or to new dimensions. Send your alloy, furnace type and melt size with an enquiry for a specification.

Lime stabilised zirconia crucibles serve to 2,200°C — the highest in the Magna range, which is why platinum group metal refiners specify them.

Specify the right zirconia crucible

Send the alloy, volume and process you're working with, and our technical team will confirm the drawing number or specify a new size.
